How to Store your Bicycle during the Winter

WINTER IS COMING!

Here are some of the best ways to store your bicycle during the winter to keep it in good condition:

  1. Clean and Lubricate:

    • Thoroughly clean your bicycle, removing any dirt, grime, or salt residue.
    • Apply a fresh coat of lubricant to the chain, derailleur, and other moving parts to prevent corrosion.
  2. Find a Dry Location:

    • Store your bicycle in a dry and temperature-controlled environment, such as a garage, basement, or indoor storage area.
    • Avoid storing it outside or in areas prone to high humidity or extreme temperature fluctuations.
  3. Elevate or Hang:

    • Consider hanging your bicycle vertically using hooks or a wall-mounted bike rack. This helps save space and prevents damage to the wheels or frame.
    • Alternatively, you can use a bicycle stand or rack to keep the bike upright and stable.
  4. Protect from Moisture:

    • Cover your bicycle with a breathable and waterproof bike cover to protect it from dust, moisture, and potential water leaks.
    • Avoid using plastic or non-breathable covers that can trap moisture and lead to rust.
  5. Tire Pressure:

    • Inflate the tires to the recommended pressure to prevent flat spots and maintain their shape during storage.
    • Check the tire pressure periodically throughout the winter and add air if necessary.
  6. Suspension:

    • If your bicycle has suspension forks or a rear shock, refer to the manufacturer's guidelines for proper storage.
    • Some suspension systems may require you to release air pressure or lock out the suspension before storage.
  7. Remove Batteries:

    • If your bicycle has an electric motor or removable battery, it's advisable to remove the battery during winter storage.
    • Store the battery in a cool, dry place away from extreme temperatures.
  8. Secure and Lock:

    • Consider using a sturdy lock or security system to deter theft, especially if you're storing your bicycle in a shared or public area.
    • Lock the bicycle frame to an immovable object, such as a bike rack or sturdy post.
  9. Regular Check-ups:

    • Occasionally inspect your stored bicycle throughout the winter to ensure there are no signs of damage, pests, or corrosion.
    • Address any issues promptly or consult a professional bicycle mechanic if needed.

Remember, proper winter storage helps protect your bicycle and extend its lifespan.

SELL YOUR OLD BIKE

If your bicycle is basically junk and you don't know what to do with it then SELL IT TO ME. I will use it for parts. I will give you a fair price ($20 to $30) for your old clunker just so I can rip it apart for parts.
